Event information

What is the ‘ONE BIG DAY’ event programme?

Our One Big Day programme is a series of annual events hosted by the Motability Scheme. The 2022 programme kicks off with our flagship show, The Big Event which is held over two-days and is our biggest event of the year. This is followed by three regional events known as One Big Days which are taking place in Exeter, Harrogate and Edinburgh this year.

Our events are designed to showcase all elements of the Motability Scheme and raise awareness of what the Scheme offers. More information about the Motability Scheme can be found here: motability.co.uk.

Where and when are the events taking place?

The Big Event - NEC, Birmingham: Friday 19 and Saturday 20 May 2023
Our flagship show, The Big Event offers the chance to see this year’s largest display of vehicles for disabled people. It is held entirely indoors and over two days.

Regional events
Our regional events are held at the following fully-accessible venues:

  • One Big Day Northern Ireland at Eikon Exhibition Centre on Saturday 24 June 2023
  • One Big Day Exeter at Westpoint Arena on Saturday 22 July 2023
  • One Big Day Harrogate at the Yorkshire Event Centre on Saturday 12 August 2023
  • The Big Event Edinburgh at the Royal Highland Centre on Friday 15 and Saturday 16 September 2023
When do the events start and finish?

All events start at 9am and finish at 4pm.

How can I see what cars will be on display and available to test drive?

Due to ongoing industry wide vehicle supply issues, we are unable to provide an exact list of which cars will be on display and available to test drive until closer to each event.  For each event you can see a list of the manufacturers that will be attending and Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles that will be on display. There is also a list of the adaptation convertors and PWS manufacturers attending the events.

Test Drives

Can anyone test drive a car at the events?

To take a test drive, you must have a full UK driving licence and have no more than either:

  • 3 (three) penalty points, which may have been accrued for any conviction;

    OR

    • 6 (six) penalty points in any one, or combination, of the following conviction categories: Speeding (SP), Construction and Use Offences (CU), Pedestrian Crossing (PC) or Traffic Signs/Directions (TS)

Any penalty points / endorsements over and above those listed above mean you will be unable to complete a test drive as a driver. Any endorsements with a conviction date of more than 5 (five) years’ old will not be counted.

To take a test drive, guests must bring their valid driving licence and sign our test drive declaration form on the day.

Do I need to book test drives in advance?

No, test drives can only be booked on the day of the event by visiting the test drive booking desk.

How can I see what cars will be on display and available to test drive?

Invitations

Do I need to preregister for the event and do I have to pay?

No, you simply just turn up on the day and all our events are free to attend - everyone is welcome!

I have lost my invitation, what should I do?

You do not need the invitation to attend and you will still be able to enter the free prize draw on the day.

Can I bring friends along?

Yes, everyone is welcome.

Can I bring pets along?

Only assistance dogs are welcome at the events.

Parking Facilities & Scooter Hire

Will there be free parking?

Yes, there will be free parking available at each event.

What are the parking facilities like at your events?

Please be assured we always try to book venues with as much flat, accessible parking as possible. Designated free parking is located close to the entrances of all our events. On arrival, you will be directed to the closet available car parking spaces by our car parking stewards. Once you have parked your vehicle, car park assistants will be on hand to help you if needed. There is also an accessible car park shuttle service running from the car park to and from the main entrances.

Can visitors hire a manual wheelchair or scooter at the events?

Yes, wheelchair or powered scooters are available to hire free of charge at all the events. These can be booked by visiting the ‘Plan Your Day’ page for each event, where you will be able to see when the bookings open.

Covid Measures

Are there any covid restrictions at the events?

The welfare of all visitors is our number one priority, so we would ask you to follow the guidelines below. We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates if any further COVID-19 measures are needed.

  • Please Do NOT attend if you have tested positive for COVID-19.
  • If you are displaying symptoms of COVID-19 or have been in contact with a person with COVID-19 please take a COVID-19 test prior to attending.

There is no requirement to wear a face covering but face coverings will be available from reception should you wish to wear one.

Do I need to do a COVID-19 test before I come to the event?

If you are displaying symptoms of COVID-19 or have been in contact with a person with COVID-19 please take a COVID-19 test prior to visiting an event.

What measure are in place to help protect guests from COVID-19 at the event?

Where possible, we have widened the aisles around the vehicle displays as much as possible, and provided more space between tables and chairs in catering areas.

Hand sanitising stations will be frequently positioned throughout our events. We would recommend maintaining good hand hygiene by using these stations after you have visited each stand and regularly wash your hands.
